Joe Perry
Fire Chief
Fire Chief Joe Perry is new to the University of California, Davis Fire Department as of 2004. He is responsible for the department's overall day-to-day operations and looks forward to enhancing emergency mitigation and fire prevention services for the UC Davis system.
A 1995 graduate of the California State University at Hayward with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Affairs and Administration, Chief Perry comes to UC Davis from the Napa Fire Department, where he was the chief for the past 12 years. He is the president of the Western Fire Chiefs Association, the Northern Division Director of the California Fire Chiefs Association, and the Vice-Chairman of the Uniform Fire Code Association.
Chief Perry has been married for 34 years to wife Cindy; they have two children, a son and a daughter, and three grandchildren. His daughter is a 1992 graduate of UC Davis.
Wes Arvin
Assistant Chief Fire Prevention
Assistant Chief Wes Arvin has been with the UC Davis Fire Department since 1983. A/C Arvin oversees the Fire Prevention Unit at both UC Davis and the UC Davis Medical Center and also serves as the Designated Campus Fire Marshal.
Wes earned a UC Davis Bachelor of Science degree in Aquaculture in 1986 and is also an alumnu of our Student Resident Firefighter Program. He is a certified Fire Officer and has held his current position since 1994.
Nathan Trauernicht
Assistant Chief Operations
Assistant Chief Nathan Trauernicht has been with the UC Davis Fire Department since 2008. He is responsible for the personnel and activities of the operations division and manages the department’s training programs.
A graduate of Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering, Asst. Chief Trauernicht also holds a Masters degree in Public Administration. He comes from the City of Oroville Fire Department where he was the Interim Fire Chief; however his career has spanned the country and many facets of the fire service profession.
Chief Trauernicht is a member of the IAFC’s Human Relations Committee, an Executive Board member of the CalChiefs Operations Section, and serves as a Command Staff member on a Cal Fire Type I Incident Management Team.
