Permits
The Fire Permit Card is used by the UC Davis Fire Department's Fire Prevention Unit to track the status of new construction and tenant improvement projects on campus and at the UC Davis Medical Center. It is also useful for informing the general public, project managers, and contractors about the requirements necessary for completing construction projects on the UC Davis campus and the UC Davis Medical Center.
This permit has been created to comply with Section 106 of the 1998 California Building Code, which requires a permit to be issued for any alteration or new construction of a structure. California Fire Code Sections 103.2.1.1 and 103.3.1.1 give the UC Davis Fire Department the authority to inspect any structure being altered or constructed on the UC Davis campus or the UC Davis Medical Center. The Fire Permit Card, when signed by the appropriate UC Davis Fire Department authority, gives Fire Department sign-off (Fire Clearance) for the structure as outlined in the California Building Code, Sections 101.17 and 108.4, and Article 87 of the California Fire Code.
Use
The Fire Permit Card will be issued when approval of the plans for a project has been given by the UC Davis Designated Campus Fire Marshal. Subsequent inspections of the project will be recorded on an inspection document, and signoff for items listed on the Fire Permit Card must be done prior to occupancy.
The project will not be considered complete by the UC Davis Fire Department until the Fire Permit Card is signed by the appropriate UC Davis Fire Department representative.
