UC Davis Police Department Star

Rescue

Fire service agencies around the country engage in numerous types of rescue operations ranging from confined space rescues to the rescue of stranded flood victims. Some types of rescue require specific qualifications and training, which are not typical of every agency. For instance, the UC Davis Fire Division is the only agency in Yolo County trained, equipped, and qualified to perform confined space rescues.
Most rescue operations pose a significant threat to rescue personnel and it is imperative that all personnel are sufficiently trained and certified to perform such operations. Because of this, it may be necessary to draw units from other counties to perform certain types of rescues due to the lack of trained resources in Yolo County.

The Tactical Objectives of Rescue
The complex and regulated nature of rescue situations creates tactical objectives that address the safety of rescue personnel and the need to adhere to state and federal guidelines related to a given rescue.

Removal – Extricating the patient.
Transportation
Moving the patient from the rescue scene to the appropriate hospital utilizing ground or air ambulance.
