The UC Davis Community Responder Program helps departments strengthen emergency preparedness by equipping faculty and staff to recognize emergencies, provide immediate care and respond confidently during the critical minutes before emergency responders arrive.
Through hands-on instruction, participants learn to use campus emergency response resources and take action in a variety of urgent situations. Designed specifically for the UC Davis community, the course makes practical emergency response training more accessible to departments and their employees.

Training more employees to recognize emergencies and respond with confidence helps build a more resilient UC Davis. Whether someone experiences a cardiac arrest, severe bleeding or opioid overdose, trained community members can provide lifesaving care during the critical minutes before emergency responders arrive.
Community Responder training also gives departments a shared experience that can strengthen preparedness across teams. When employees learn together, they gain a common understanding of how to respond and support one another in an emergency.
What you'll learn
In this three-hour course, participants receive hands-on instruction in:
- CPR
- Automated External Defibrillator (AED) awareness and use
- Stop the Bleed® techniques
- Naloxone (Narcan) administration
- PulsePoint and campus emergency response resources
- How to recognize common medical emergencies and respond until first responders arrive
Who should attend?
The Community Responder Program is designed for UC Davis faculty and staff who want practical emergency response skills but do not require professional CPR certification.
Department representatives can register employees for a monthly training session or request a dedicated session for their team. Student organizations may also request training if they can provide a recharge account.
Request training
Choose the training option that works best for your team.
Community Responder training is $30 per person. The fee is designed to recover program costs while keeping practical emergency preparedness training affordable and accessible to departments.
Monthly training
Community Responder training sessions are offered on the first Wednesday of each month at 9 a.m.-noon. Department representatives can register members of their team to participate, with space for up to 24 participants.
Schedule is subject to change, and sessions are dependent on sufficient enrollment. Confirm available dates when registering.
Request a session for your department
Departments can also request a dedicated, onsite training session for groups of 10 to 24 participants. When requesting a session, be prepared to provide preferred dates, a training location and estimated number of participants.

The Community Responder Program includes a course completion certificate, but it is not an American Heart Association certification and does not meet professional licensing or employment requirements.
