Importance of AEDs and bystander CPR on campus
Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is one of the leading causes of death in the U.S., affecting over 350,000 people outside of hospitals each year.
The good news is that survival rates can triple when a bystander steps in to perform CPR and an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is applied before emergency responders arrive. Yet, fewer than half of SCA victims get the immediate help they need. That’s why having an AED nearby make all the difference. These easy-to-use devices provide a shock that can restart the heart and, when paired with CPR, they significantly improve survival chances.
If your building doesn’t have an AED yet, now is the time to get one! The UC Davis Fire Department is your go-to resource for ordering, installing, and maintaining AEDs. We’ll help you from start to finish by guiding you through the purchase and installation process and then coordinating on-going checks and maintenance.
