HeartSaver CPR and AED 

This course is designed to prepare students to provide CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) use in a safe, timely and effective manner for adults, children and infants. This course also teaches Stop the Bleed, which covers current techniques used to control bleeding, including tourniquet application, wound packing and the use of bleeding control kits. At the completion of the course participants will receive a Stop the Bleed Certification card.

Audience: Designed for anyone with little or no medical training who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting.

Course Card: Upon successful completion students will receive an AHA HeartSaver CPR AED eCard valid for 2 years.

Time: Full in-person – 4 hours, hybrid – 2 hours online and 2 hours in-person


HeartSaver First Aid

This First Aid course teaches critical skills and knowledge needed to respond to and manage an emergency in the first few minutes until EMS takes over. 

Audience: Anyone with little or no medical training.

Course Card: Upon successful completion, students will receive an AHA HeartSaver First Aid eCard valid for 2 years.

Time: Full in-person -2 hours, hybrid – 1.5 hours online and 1 hour in-person


HeartSaver First Aid, CPR, AED

This course teaches critical skills and knowledge needed to respond to and manage an emergency in the first few minutes until EMS takes over. Topics include First Aid, CPR and AED use. At the completion of the course participants will receive a Stop the Bleed Certification card.

Audience: Anyone with little or no medical training

Course Card: Upon successful completion students will receive an AHA HeartSaver First Aid CPR AED eCard valid for 2 years.

Time: Full in-person -5.5 hours, hybrid – 3 hours online and 2.5 hours in-person


BLS Provider CPR

This course is for healthcare professionals and those wanting to become healthcare professionals. It underlines the importance of early CPR and defibrillation. It emphasizes the basic steps of performing CPR, using a BVM, using an AED and relieving choking. This course includes Stop the Bleed, which covers current techniques used to control bleeding, including tourniquet application, wound packing and the use of bleeding control kits. At the completion of the course, participants will receive a Stop the Bleed Certification card.

Audience: Professionals and/or those entering into the healthcare field. (This course meets the CPR requirements for entry into the UCDFD EMT program and other allied health classes and professions.)

Course Card: Upon successful completion, students will receive an AHA BLS provider eCard valid for 2 years.

Time: Full in-person -5 hours, hybrid – 3 hours online and 2 hours in-person

First on the Scene (FOTS)

First on the Scene (FOTS), developed by NAEMT and the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC).  FOTS teaches basic emergency response to life-threatening emergencies until EMS arrives on the scene. Through lesson presentations and hands-on skill stations, participants will learn how to access help in the event of a life-threatening emergency and what to do until EMS arrives. This course covers: activating the 911 system, hands-only CPR and AED, administering naloxone, administering epinephrine, responding to life-threatening bleeding, penetrating chest trauma, moving patients to safety, and positioning injured patients.

Audience: Designed for anyone with little or no medical training who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting.

Course Card: Upon successful completion, students will receive an NAEMT FOTS certificate of completion.

 Time: 4 hours
