UC Davis Fire Department Chief Awarded Chief Fire Officer Designation

UC Davis’ Fire Chief, Nathan Trauernicht, was awarded the professional designation of Chief Fire Officer (CFO) after successfully completing the designation program and process required by the Commission on Professional Credentialing (CPC).

Chief Trauernicht becomes one of only 1,366 CFOs worldwide. Achieving this designation signifies Chief Trauernicht’s commitment to his career in the fire and emergency services.

“I wanted to complete this program not only because it prepares me to serve the UC Davis community at the highest level,” said Trauernicht “but also because it serves as a model for professional development for the rest of my team.”

In addition to the honor of CFO, Chief Trauernicht is also professionally designated as a Chief Emergency Medical Services Officer — one of 142, and a Chief Training Officer — one of only 132 credentialed in these specialties internationally.

“UC Davis is very proud of Chief Trauernicht’s commitment to advancing his skills and those of his team,” said Kelly Ratliff, Vice Chancellor of FOA. “He continues to strive for excellence and having leadership in a critical life-safety area is invaluable to the campus.”

The Designation program is designed to recognize individuals who demonstrate their excellence in seven measured components including experience, education, professional development, professional contributions, association membership, community involvement and technical competence.
